The Indian Constitution mandates that 'Police' and 'Public Order' are State subjects, with States/UTs responsible for crime prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution. The Central Government supports these initiatives through advisories and financial assistance. To strengthen cyber crime coordination, the government has increased awareness, issued alerts, trained law enforcement personnel, and established the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
As a part of I4C, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal is a centralized platform that has been designed to streamline the reporting and resolution of cyber crimes, particularly targeting women and children. It offers a user-friendly interface, 24/7 accessibility, anonymity and confidentiality, multi-language support, a tracking mechanism, and support services. The portal aims to enhance digital security and protect vulnerable groups from the increasing threat of cyber crimes, creating a safer online environment for all users.
In addition to this, the Indian government also launched the 'Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System' in 2021 to report financial frauds, saving over Rs 24000 Crore in over 7.6 lakh complaints. A toll-free helpline number '1930' is available for online fraud complaints. The Sanchar Saathi portal empowers mobile subscribers, strengthens security, and increases awareness about citizen-centric initiatives. An online Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) is also available to share telecom misuse information and prevent cyber crime and financial fraud.
