Mumbai tops the list of the most crowded city in India with an estimated 12 million population. It is a city where people from all around India and worldwide come either as tourists or as strugglers and employees. Due to the enormous crowd, women in Mumbai at times feel unsafe or face dangerous or harassing situations especially when travelling on a train. To fight back against the odds and ensure their safety, the Mumbai Railway Police have collaborated with the Coto application which is a 'Women only' social community app to launch a campaign called 'Sakhi in Khaki'.
Women commuters who are travelling on local trains can use the Coto App to report any kind of problem or misbehaving they encounter. They can express their concerns by sharing videos, photos, or messages through this application.
To address the concerns, the Mumbai railway police will take immediate action. The aim of this initiative is to connect with women and ensure their safety while travelling in Mumbai. This partnership with the Coto App is a step towards making Mumbai a more welcoming environment for women.
Dr. Ravindra Shisve, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Railways mentions that they are happy to be associated with a platform like Coto, which shares core safety values as they do. They hope to establish a strong bond with women through collaborative efforts so that they can seek help and support while encountering difficult situations.
