The Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM), department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj organised a function dedicating 50,000 Self Help Groups (SHG) women members as business correspondents. This was done to mark India’s 75th Independence Day celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, State Mission Director (MSRLM) Yumnam Robita, urged the participants to give cooperation and support to achieve the goal of the mission. She said under the scheme, women are empowered through the SHGs and the function will highlight the active role of the Bank Sakhis.

Appreciating the women entrepreneurs and encouraging them to work harder to shine in their business, she also urged the bank partners to assist those SHGs needing help and assured that the Mission would continue its support in the future.

Sharing his observation on ‘Business Correspondents as Entreprneurship’, Director Lianminthang of Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), said correspondents need to play as a link to the banks and the rural mass and in this process, they can also greatly benefit if they imbibe characteristics of a successful entrepreneur.

He informed that RSETI also trains BCs under the ‘One GP one BC Sakhi’ programme with certification by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF) and also trains rural poor and unemployed youths in various trades with the objective of generation of self-employment and entrepreneurship.

32 SHGs were conferred electronic devices and certificates by the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance at the day’s function which was attended by IDFC first bank, Manipur representatives of APB (Airtel Payment bank), SMM-FICSC-SPV and SHGs members.
