The Modi Government plans to introduce two key bills in the next winter session held in the Parliament from December 4 with an aim to reserve one-third of seats for women representatives in Puducherry, Jammu & Kashmir legislative assemblies.
In order to secure seats for female participants, the government will also present the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which will suggest allocating one-third of the Union Territories seats for women.
From 4 December to 22 December 2023, the winter session will be organized. In these 19 days of the session, the Union government will be discussing 7 new bills along with the 2 women's quota bills. The 33 remaining bills may also be addressed by the government during this winter session.
"The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023," is another bill scheduled for discussion and voting in the Winter Session. The bill was first introduced in the Rajya Sabha to establish a process for the Election Commission to transact business.
A special committee made up of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and the Chief Justice of India recommended that the President appoint people to the election body until the Parliament enacts a good law on the matter. This decision was made earlier in March by a five-judge Supreme Court bench led by Justice K. M. Joseph.
