K Kavita, the member of the Legislative Council wrote a letter on Tuesday to the 47 political parties urging them to pass the highly delayed Women's Reservation Bill during the upcoming Parliament session. A convincing letter was written by a former Nizamabad MP and has been sent to all the 47 political parties that are represented in the Indian Parliament. She urged them to put their political differences aside and give the Women's Reservation Bill top priority during the upcoming special session of Parliament.
According to the Women's Reservation Bill, women should be given 33 per cent of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative bodies. The Bill has remained unpassed for a long period despite being an essential step towards gender parity and inclusive governance. K Kavita emphasized the importance of women in Indian discourse and the urgent need for their representation in legislative bodies. The proof of concept has been highlighted in the letter offered by 14 lakh women who are already involved in public life and have proven their capacity for effective leadership and governance.
The greater female representation was not an issue of exclusivity but rather a way to create a more equitable and balanced political environment. She urged all political parties to support the Women's Reservation Bill and acknowledge the urgency of the situation.
In March, Kavita went on a hunger strike in protest of the passing of the Women's Reservation Bill. Since then, she has been working with political parties and civil society groups to suppress her demands to pass the Bill.
