Disturbed sleep, menstrual cramps, and dirty public restrooms are the top menstrual hygiene issues for women during their periods, according to a poll. More over half of the women polled (53.2%) stated they don't get enough sleep the first two days of their periods. According to the report, 67.5 percent of women are still concerned about spotting while sleeping.
According to the survey, 57.3 percent of women had moderate to severe period cramps, while 37.2 percent had minor or infrequent menstrual pain.
Sixty-two percent of women said they have never or only seldom changed a sanitary pad in a public area like an office, mall, or movie theatre.
If they need to change their sanitary pad in a public restroom, however, 74.6 percent of women feel uneasy. According to the report, as many as 88.3% of women believe that dirty toilets can cause recurrent urinary tract infection.
Nearly 6,000 menstruation women aged 18 to 35 years old from over 35 cities participated in the menstrual hygiene study, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Patna, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bhopal, Indore, Guwahati, Jaipur, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Kolkata.
The poll also revealed some information about the average onset age and period duration.
While the majority of women (79.3%) indicated they were 12 years or older when they first had their period, 63.1 percent of women said they knew girls who had just started their periods, with 37.5 percent of those girls being 11 years or younger.
The findings of the survey also cast doubt on the expression "those five days," as only about a third of women (30.3%) had periods for five days in a month.
22.8 percent of women had periods that lasted three days or less each month, while 1.8 percent had periods that lasted more than eight days. A feminine hygiene company conducted the survey.
