On January 5, the Rotary Club Mangaluru will debut a mobile wellness clinic for women in the area to help with early identification of non-communicable illnesses such as breast cancer and cervical cancer, according to Sudhir Kumar Jalan, president of Rotary Club Mangaluru.
The Rotary Club of Mangalore, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Silicon Valley passport (USA), RI District 6540 (USA), and RI District 3181, is providing a women's wellness clinic bus to Yenepoya Hospital under the Rotary Foundation Global Grant project. Rotary is covering the entire project cost of INR 1.25 crore.
Jalan said, “oral cancer, breast cancer and cervical cancer account for 55% of the cancers in India and their early detection and treatment can save the lives of rural women in our district.”
The community will be involved in the health camps and screenings in this mobile wellness clinic through panchayats, women self-help organisations, Asha, anganwadi workers, and local community leaders. The screening or any examination that takes place on the bus is completely free.
This cancer detection bus is outfitted with cutting-edge mammography machines for breast inspection and screening, as well as a colposcopy machine for cervical screening. BPL women who are diagnosed with cancer will be treated for free at Yenepoya Hospital. He stated that the goal of this effort is to assist low-income residents.
