Malaysian Women Shuttlers exit Early in India Open

The 2023 India Open Championship, which started with great enthusiasm yesterday at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi, India, was a pack-off for Malaysian Women shuttlers on the opening day.

Goh Jin Wei (pix) who is the representative of Malaysian women's singles failed to meet up the expectations when she was eliminated in the first round after losing 13-21, 11-21 to Thailand's sixth seed Ratchanok Intanon.

The competition between the former World Junior champion and the world number six lasted only for 27 minutes.

Jin Wei, who is currently suffering from a colectomy surgery she underwent in 2019, ranks 29th in the world.

China's Li Wen Mei-Liu Xuan Xuan defeated Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien who is ranked 17th in the world by 16-21, 9-21 in a 36-minute match.

Takuro Hoki-Yogo Kobayashi is top-seeded Japanese men's doubles pair met an unexpected loss by scores of 13-21, 18-21 to South Korean pair Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae in a match that lasted for 39 minutes.
