LS Speaker Om Birla Highlights Indian Women's Empowerment with Scottish Leaders

He met with Scottish leaders, including First Minister John Swinney and Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone to discuss enhancing parliamentary productivity using AI and technology, LS Speaker also highlighted India's progress in gender equality and suggested an exchange of best practices for women's participation in governance.
The Speaker discussed India's growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on global peace and 'VasudhaiKutumbakam'. Shri Birla highlighted the Indian Parliament's efforts in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment through legislation and debates. He emphasized PM Modi's historic decisions like the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' ensuring enhanced representation of women in democratic processes. He further highlighted the importance of increasing women's participation in parliamentary proceedings and suggested that Indian and Scottish parliaments should share experiences in advancing women's participation in governance. He emphasized India's commitment to women-led development and the growing confidence in its democracy.
Shri Birla praised India's strong democratic system and the importance of meaningful discussions, dialogues, and deliberations in its functioning. He also praised the efficiency of the Indian parliamentary committee system and proposed increased collaboration with the Scottish Parliament.
