The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) have completed the third batch of the Leadership Programme in Science & Technology (LEADS), a joint initiative aimed at enhancing leadership quality in India's higher education sector through structured and comprehensive training programs. The program, held in New Delhi from July 8-14, 2024, involved 37 scientists from various institutions.
The third batch of the LEADS programme, designed to improve leadership skills among academic professionals, saw 38 per cent female participation, marking a significant increase from the previous two batches, which only had 14 per cent and 25 per cent female participants respectively. Participants undergo rigorous training in strategic planning, leadership skills, financial management, and international perspectives on education. The program also encourages international collaboration and a focus on inclusion, aiming to create a supportive environment for leaders from diverse backgrounds.
The LEADS programme aims to enhance scientific leadership and governance in Indian institutions and laboratories. It provides comprehensive training on leadership principles, administrative practices, financial management, communication skills, and policy matters. Participants learn strategic planning, financial management, governance, and policy-making. They engage in interactive sessions, workshops, and case studies. International exposure allows them to learn from global best practices and implement innovative strategies. Graduates are expected to return with enhanced leadership skills and a broader perspective on governance and management.
