The Lady Lawyers Day was observed by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and SILF Ladies Group (SLG) on Saturday. Nearly 500 female lawyers from across the nation attended the event, which was a resounding celebration of the achievements and accomplishments of those empowered females in the legal profession. The distinguished Justice Pratibha M. Singh, a judge of the Delhi High Court, officially inaugurated the event. The event was made grand by the presence of Mr. Fali S. Nariman, who is a renowned legal icon.
Justice Pratibha noted that women's struggles are felt all over the globe in pursuit of gender equality. Women had difficulties gaining knowledge about the law and becoming lawyers even in India until the early and middle of the 20th century.
Though there has been much progress but still there needs to be recognition that there is still a long way to go. Women lawyers have made significant progress, excelling in corporate Law, litigation, publications, law firms, and policy making. Globally, gender bias still exists, which limits Women’s access to leadership positions and representation. Women although hold a very small proportion of leadership positions in politics, business, and government.
It is critical to get over these barriers in order to address the disparity in women enrolling as lawyers, they still lack behind for a variety of reasons as in many courts, it remains difficult for female attorneys to access adequate facilities.
