Ladakh Women's team clinches Gold at Khelo India Winter Games 2024

The Ladakh women's team won the gold medal at the Khelo India Winter Games 2024, marking a historic achievement on ice. Their on-ice performance of talent, determination, and cooperation was nothing short of inspirational. On Monday, the 4th day of the Khelo India Winter Games 2024, Ladakh, experienced a mixed day. At the NDS sports facility in Leh, the Union Territory women's short track 1600m relay team won their first-ever Khelo India gold, while the men's ice hockey team lost 4-0 to a competitive ITBP in the semi-finals.
Ladakh team achieved historic gold in women's short track, overcoming freezing temperatures, thin air, and challenging terrains, showcasing their athletic prowess and resilience in winter sports. With a stunning time of 3:55.80, the Ladakh quartet of Skarma Tsultim, Insha Fatima, Tasnia Shamim, and Padma Angmo overtook Maharashtra (4:17.12) for second place by a significant margin.
The Ice Skating Association of Ladakh's coach, Mohammad Abbas Nordak, mentioned, “My team trained hard in the last year." The girls were up against a more seasoned squad with seasoned skaters who had trained abroad, so the gold was unexpected. My happiness has no boundaries.” He also announced that the short-track relay was conducted first time in Ladakh.
