KWC Organizes Camp Addressing Women Issues in Coastal Areas

The Kerala Women's Commission will organize a camp on November 20 and 21 in Ernakulam city to address the issues that women in coastal areas face. Monday night's workshop on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act of 2005 will be inaugurated by Commission Chairperson P Sathidevi at the Manassery Community Hall. On the other hand, on Tuesday there will be a coordination meeting with all department heads which will be organised at St. Sebastian Parish Hall in Chellanam followed by a house visit.
The Chairperson, P Sathidevi stated about this camp that Women in the coastal areas face a number of issues including financial instability, lack of educational facilities, unemployment, healthcare issues as well and drastic weather conditions.
She continued that, this coastal camp will also be attended by the members of the Women's Commission, Commission delegates, gender consultants, and local body authorities.
The Kerala Women's Commission is currently led by P Sathidevi, who took over on October 1, 2021. In addition to serving as general secretary of the Democratic Women's Association, she is a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Following the dismissal of former president MC Josephine due to her insensitive remarks regarding a complainant, she was appointed to the position. P Sathidevi is a former member of the Lok Sabha representing Kerala's Vadakara constituency.
