Kurukshetra University VC highlights Govt Schemes on Increasing Women in STEM

Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Professor Som Nath Sachdeva, recently highlighted the positive impact of government schemes on increasing the participation of women in science, technology, and engineering fields. He addressed the Women in STEM (WIS) Forum Award ceremony organized by the Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Forum at Kurukshetra University in the Senate Hall of the university. The event was hosted today, 23 October 2024, and aimed to celebrate women's achievements in STEM fields.
Prof Som Nath mentioned that the Indian government has initiated a number of schemes and projects to promote women participating in STEM fields and these initiatives have driven a significant percentage of women in research areas. Initiatives like Women in Science and Engineering-KIRAN (WISE-KIRAN) that enhances women's participation in science and technology through fellowship programs, Women Scientist Scheme (WOS-A and WOS-C) to support female scientists to pursue research and innovation, Consolidation of University Research for Innovation and Excellence in Women (CURIE) encourages women to excel in research and innovation, have boost women's participation in science fields. Women are being empowered to take leadership roles which fosters India's global competitiveness in science and technology.
Professor Anubha Kaushik, Indraprastha University mentioned the challenges and opportunities for women in science including gender bias, less representation in leadership roles, and unequal opportunities for funding, promotions, and recognition. The event recognized Dr. Neera Raghav, Dr. Anita Yadav, Dr. Reeta Devi, Dr. Suman Mahendia, Dr. Anita Bhatnagar, Dr Kiran Siwach, and Prerna from various departments and awarded them with the WIS Forum for their outstanding research papers.
