With the cooperation of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and former police officials from police training institutes, steps are being taken to provide particular training in self-defense to young women, according to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Mr. Bommai remarked that despite the fact that a self-defense training programme was established last year, it could not be released due to the COVID-19 outbreak, after attending the Police Commemoration Day function in Hubballi on Thursday. He stated that the training programme would begin now that colleges had reopened.

The Chief Minister stated that the KSRP had been enlisted to create the programme, in addition to the experience of retired officials from police training institutions.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra paid tribute to the martyred police officers in Bengaluru. He stated that the government's top objective was to ensure the welfare of police officers and the development of the Police Department. Mr. Jnanendra said the State Government had sanctioned a 30 lakh ex gratia money in honour of the police officers who perished as a result of COVID-19. During 2020-21, 123 police officers died as a result of COVID-19 infection, while 16 others died in the course of duty, he claimed.

Speaking to the reporters, Bommai said, ” The girls will be trained by the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP)’s women platoon. Also, retired principals who worked in police training schools will also be appointed to train the girls.”

Talking about the flood situation in Kerala, he said, ” I spoke to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to heavy rains & landslides. I have asked Karnataka Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar to be in touch with the Kerala Chief Secretary for all support in relief and rehabilitation.”

“Also, steps have been taken to protect people from Karnataka who are stranded in Uttarakhand following heavy floods and landslides. Tushar Girinath has been appointed as the Nodal officer,” he added.
