The Kerala Women's Commission Head P Sathidevi has called for mandated premarital counseling in the state, which is a significant milestone. The Commission, which was established under the 1990 Act, seeks to improve the position of women and to eliminate unjust practices in the state.
The call occurred at the launch of a premarital and postmarital counseling program developed in partnership with the Thiruvananthapuram-based Life Foundation. On November 19, the event was held at Neyyattinkara.
MLA Karunakaran Ansalan of Neyyattinkara opened the session at Swadeshabhimani Hall. K. Ansalan is a Communist Party of India member and MLA from Neyyattinkara in Kerala's 14th Legislative Assembly. Author and media worker R Parvathi Devi, ICDS District Programme Officer Kavita Rani Ranjith, Life Foundation Director S G Bina Mol, Neyyattinkara Municipal Councillor Sheela, Parassala Grama Panchayat president Manju Smitha, and CDPOs Shivapriya and Krishna participated in the program.
Sathidevi's quest for mandated premarital therapy indicates a rising awareness of the need of psychological preparation for couples about to marry. The initiative's goal is to provide people the tools and insights they need to manage the intricacies of married life, creating stronger relationships and perhaps lowering incidences of marital strife.
