Kerala's all-women network Kudumbashree sets World Record for the largest 'Thiruvathira' Dance Performance

Over 7,000 members of Kerala's all-woman network Kudumbashree staged a mega, 'Thiruvathira' on the grounds of a local college here on Wednesday, setting a new record.

Thiruvathira is a traditional group dance form in Kerala that is primarily performed during the Onam festival in the Malayalam month of Chingam. It is also performed in Malayalam during the month of Dhanu.

The members of Kudumbasrhee performed the mega 'Thiruvathirakali' on the grounds of Kuttanellur Government College in this Central Kerala district. According to an official statement, it set the world record for the largest Thiruvathira ever performed.

Due to a large number of participants, 7027 dancers, the performance marked their place in the Limca Book of World Records and the Talent World Records. Preparations are being made for this event to enter into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The District Onam celebrations were organized by the Tourism Department, the District administration, and the city corporation which was inaugurated by Revenue Minister K Ranjan. He praised the participants stating that Kudumbashree is an exemplary model of women empowerment. The mega Thiruvathira performed in front of a large audience for 10 minutes.
