After the viral infection broke out in the southern state one and a half years ago, state Health Minister Veena George said here on Wednesday that 41 pregnant women had died as a result of Covid-19.
She told the state Assembly during question hour that the number of Covid positive people who had committed suicide in the state was 149.
The minister was responding to a query on this from Congress MP T J Vinod.
George said, “As per the figures reported from the districts, 41 pregnant women have succumbed to the disease in the state. Besides, 149 patients affected with the viral infection have committed suicide”.
In response to a question from Congress representative Mathew Kuzhalnadan, she stated that, according to reports, there appears to be no difference between the findings of the state health department's latest sero prevalent scientific research and comparable surveys performed by the ICMR.
The sero positive rate in Kerala was 0.33 %, 0.88 %, and 11.6% in May, August, and December of 2020, respectively, according to the ICMR study report, and 44.4% in May 2021, according to the minister.
“It has risen to 82.61 per cent when the state conducted the sero prevalence study during the August-September this year”, said minister.
The increase in the state's sero positive rate was predicted, and it could be related to advancements in immunisation and people's lifestyles, she said, adding that it was a reflection of the state government's efficient Covid control measures.
According to the data of the state research, a bigger proportion of the population in the state has developed pandemic resistance.
It also said that 17% of the whole population was still susceptible to the sickness, according to George.
The coastal population had the highest sero prevalence rate (93.3%) among various groups of persons who had got two doses of vaccination, according to the minister, citing the survey.
