The Karnataka government has inaugurated the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme, aimed at providing a monthly aid of Rs 2,000 to around 1.1 crore women who are heads of households. The scheme was formally launched by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a ceremony attended by AICC President M Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme is part of the Congress party's pre-poll 'guarantees' and is designed to provide direct financial assistance to women in families. This endeavor reflects the government's commitment to supporting women's economic independence and strengthening family welfare.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the significance of the initiative, highlighting that as many as 1.1 crore women who are the heads of households will receive a monthly aid of Rs 2,000 each. The scheme has been allocated a substantial budget of Rs 17,500 crore for the current financial year, underlining the government's dedication to ensuring its successful implementation. 'Gruha Lakshmi' stands as one of the five pre-poll 'guarantees' of the Congress party. These include 'Shakti', 'Gruha Jyothi', and 'Anna Bhagya', programs that contribute to various aspects of social welfare and development.
