K'taka WC's Nagalakshmi Chaudhary emphasizes Importance of Women's Fighting Spirit against Atrocities

Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women's Commission, emphasized the importance of women developing a fighting spirit and becoming tough during a session at the 87th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya. She emphasized that violence against women can be reduced by understanding the law and actively pursuing legal action. Despite strict laws, many women hesitate to lodge complaints due to pressures.
The Chairperson attended the programme on the topic Stree andare ashte sake as part of the Sammelana at the Kempananjammanni and Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Stadium. She mentioned "Women are hesitant to lodge a police complaint due to various pressures on her. The atrocities will not come down until they come forward and fight legally." She added "It was B R Ambedkar, who empowered women socially and educationally. A women's movement started during the time of social reformer Basavanna."
The session discussed female foeticide, honor killing, and other incidents of female exploitation in a male-dominated society. Poet Subhasri Prasad highlighted the ongoing oppression and exploitation against women, including acid attacks and character assassination. She also highlighted the ongoing mafia of women being sold in marriage, exploitation in various fields, social media, religious restrictions, and deprived education.
