Jyothi Yarraji surpassed the national record while winning an event in Cyprus on Tuesday, a month after her attempt was disqualified owing to excessive wind aid beyond the permitted limit.
Under a 0.1m/s headwind, the 22-year-old Andhra athlete claimed gold at the Cyprus International Meet in Limassol. Since 2002, Anuradha Biswal has held the national record of 13.38 seconds.
This Cyprus International Meet is a Challenger category D event on the World Athletics Continental Tour.
Jyothi, who trains at the Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics High Performance Center in Bhubaneswar under Joseph Hillier, ran 13.09 seconds at the Federation Cup in Kozhikode last month, but it was not considered a national record because the wind speed was higher than the allowed +2.0 m/s.
Jyothi ran 13.03 seconds at the All India Inter-University Athletics Championships in Moodbidri, Karnataka, in 2020, breaking Biswal's national record.
However, it was not considered as NR since the National Anti-Doping Agency did not test her at the competition and the Athletics Federation of India did not send a technical delegate.
Another Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics High Performance Center trainee, Amlan Borgohain, finished third in the men's 200m race with a time of 21.32 seconds, breaking the national record at the Kozhikode Federation Cup.
The 24-year-old from Assam had clocked 20.52s in Kozhikode. Lili Das, on the other hand, won the women's 1500m race in 4 minutes 17.79 seconds.
