Justice Poonam A. Bamba appointed as Chairperson of PCA

Justice Poonam A. Bamba, the former Delhi High Court judge, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA). The appointment was announced by V.K. Saxena, Delhi LG on Sunday.
The Police Complaints Authority has been set up to address the public’s complaints against acts of serious misconduct by police personnel.
Justice Bamba’s name was supported as Chairperson of the PCA on the direction of the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.
The Police Complaints Authority will have the authority to take up a case suo motu. It will also have the power to act on complaints received from a victim, any person on his/her behalf on a sworn affidavit; the National Human Rights Commission; Lt Governor or Chief Secretary or Principal Secretary, Home.
The Police Complaints Authority will not entertain any anonymous or pseudonymous complaints.
Justice Bamba, who retired in August will take over her role as the Chairperson of the PCA from Justice P S Teji (retd). His tenure ended in August.
Constituted in 2018, the Police Complaints Authority for GNCTD was set up in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions and based on the guidelines given by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The LG has been entrusted with the responsibility of appointing authority for the Chairman/Members of the PCA.
