Citigroup Inc. has launched an early intake initiative in Asia to increase the number of women in the investment banking and markets divisions. According to a press release, the American bank launched a programme that offered early training for 50 female students for its summer analyst hiring programme.
The virtual five-week programme, which was first piloted in North America in 2017, was launched in Asia in mid-April. Prior to their penultimate year of college or university, students were eligible to apply. In its investment banking, markets, and securities services sectors, the bank aims for at least 50% female representation in its annual summer analyst intake.
The programme aims to spot and mentor talent early by providing applicants with training to help them prepare for interviews and increase their chances of landing a 10-week summer internship.
“These are areas where female representation has typically been more challenging than in other areas of banking and financial services,” the bank said in the release. “Citi aims to invest and develop a pipeline of potential female bankers for these businesses.”
The 50 candidates were chosen from over 1,200 applicants from over 590 institutions around the world. Those who are chosen will participate in the summer analyst programme in Singapore, Hong Kong, India, China, or Korea in 2022.
