On Sunday in Kuala Lumpur, India's U-19 team secured the first Women’s U-19 Asia Cup title by overcoming Bangladesh U-19 by 41 runs, propelled by a stellar half-century from Gongadi Trisha and strong bowling performances.
Following the toss, Bangladesh captain Sumaiya Akter chose to field. Trisha made a commendable 52 runs from 47 balls while opening the batting, striking five fours and two sixes. However, the other Indian batsmen struggled to accumulate runs.
Trisha's contributions were vital, as she maintained the innings during a series of poor performances from her teammates.
Without rapid inputs from Mithila Vinod (17 runs off 12 balls) and Aayushi Shukla (10 from 13), India could have found it challenging to achieve 117 runs for 7 in their 20 overs.
For Bangladesh, Farjana Easmin excelled as the leading bowler, securing 4 wickets for 31 runs, while Nishita Akter Nishi took 2 for 23.
In reply, Bangladesh repeatedly lost wickets and fell behind, getting bowled out for only 76 runs in 18.3 overs. Juairiya Ferdous (22 runs from 30 balls) and Fahomida Choya (18 runs from 24 balls) were the team's only notable contributors.
On India’s side, Aayushi Shukla performed outstandingly with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 17 runs, supported by Sonam Yadav (2/13), Parunika Sisodia (2/12), and VJ Joshitha (1/11).
Gongadi Trisha's outstanding performance in the match secured her the Player of the Match title.
