India women's cricket team set a record by scoring 410 runs in the first Test against England. The match was held at the DY Patil Stadium on 14 December, Thursday. It is considered to be the second-highest score in a day in a women's Test.
In addition, this marks the third time that 400 or more runs have been scored in a single day in a women's test as the other two were on day four of the Australia vs. England Test in 2022. In December 2022, Australia and England scored 449 runs, compared to the combined 475 runs scored by England and New Zealand in the 1935 Test.
India's 410/7, on the other hand, surpasses their previous best score in a home Test match against South Africa in 2014 and stands as their highest total ever.
Harmanpreet Kaur's team faced a poor start with Smriti Mandhana (17) and Shefali Verma (19) falling after a total of 47 in 8.4 overs, however, four out of five Indian batters scored fifties.
Satheesh Shubha (69), Jemimah Rodrigues (68), Yastika Bhatia (66), and Deepti Sharma (60) were the four phenomenal players. Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper, was unfortunate to receive a score of 49 and couldn't cross the half-century mark.
At a respectable run rate of 4.36 per over 94 overs, the Indian batters gained these runs. The hosts have already hit the third-most boundaries in a women's Test innings with 62 hits so far in their innings.
With two wickets under her belt, Lauren Bell was the best bowler for England. Other than her, Sophie Ecclestone, Charlie Dean, Kate Cross, and Nat-Sciver Brunt all claimed wickets.
