Indian Women's Team Moves from 59th to 56thSpot in FIFA Ranking; Men's Team Rises 104th

The Indian women's senior national football team moved up three places in the latest FIFA world rankings. They advanced from the 59th to 56th spot in the listing released on Thursday. Additionally, the Indian men's senior national football team also moved from the 106th to 104th spot in the ranking. They reaped the benefit of their spectacular Asian Cup qualification which helped them move up two places in the latest FIFA world rankings.

The Blue Tigers showcased an excellent performance in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers campaign. The team finished on top ofGroup D by securing three out of three wins against Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Hong Kong. Led by ace footballer Sunil Chhetri, the team crafted history, since it was India's first-ever back-to-back qualification in the AFC Asian Cup. The Asian Cup is slated to be held in 2023. The Indian team is now placed below New Zealand (103rd), who recently lost their World Cup qualification spot to Costa Rica.

India's AFC ranking, however still remains at the 19th spot. Iranis currently leading the ranking. The Indian team beat Egypt and Jordan 1-0 each earlier this year in international friendly matches.
