The Indian women’s hockey team suffered a 0-4 defeat to Germany in the FIH Pro League on Friday. Germany dominated the match from start to finish, with Amelie Wortmann scoring in the 3rd minute and Sophia Schwabe adding two more goals in the 18th and 47th minutes. Johanne Hachenberg sealed the win with a penalty corner in the 59th minute. Germany earned 10 penalty corners, while India had just 2. Wortmann's opener came from a goalmouth scramble in the early minutes of the game.
Germany quickly earned a penalty corner but failed to capitalize, as India defended resolutely. In the 39th minute, India had another penalty corner opportunity, but Udita's slap hit was blocked by the German defenders. Two minutes into the final quarter, Sophia extended Germany's lead with a powerful reverse hit, making it 4-0.
The Indian team fought hard to get back into the match, creating some promising attacking opportunities, but struggled with the final touch. Germany secured the victory a minute before the final whistle when Johanne converted a penalty corner.
India's next match is again against Germany on Saturday. Currently, India is in 7th place in the nine-team standings with 6 points from four games, while Germany sits just above them with 7 points from six games.
