Indian Women's Hockey defeats Poland 5-4

The Indian Women's Hockey Team began their FIH Hockey5s Women's World Cup 2024 campaign with a victory, defeating Poland 5-4 in a thrilling Pool C match. Deepika Soreng (6', 29') and Mumtaz Khan (4', 23') both scored braces for India. The game took place on January 24, 2024, in Muscat, Oman. On January 24, the Indian Women's Team will play the United States of America.
Mumtaz Khan (4') gave the Indian Women's Team the early lead with a field goal early in the half. A few minutes later, Deepika Soreng (6') immediately doubled the lead with another field goal.
With five minutes remaining in the first half, India's lead was tied to 2-2 due to field goals from Julia Kucharska (8') and Marlena Rybacha (10') of Poland. India was ahead 3-2 at the end of the first half due to a goal from Mumtaz Khan (14'), made to score her second.
During the first part of the second half of the match, both teams prevented opponents from scoring a goal. India kept the pressure on the Polish team as Mariana Kujur (23') received a chance to double India's lead, and she gave as they won 4-2 due to her excellent finish.
Paula Slawinska (27') stopped an Indian pass with three minutes remaining and scored to decrease the goal deficit to one. But soon after, Deepika Soreng (29') scored, giving India a two-goal advantage again. With only a minute remaining, Monika Polewczak (29') scored, making the final score 5-4 in favor of India. The Indian Women's Team won the game 5-4 by maintaining their lead.
