Indian Women's Cricket Team Support Staff to be given Long Term Contracts

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will appoint the support staff for the Indian women’s cricket team on a long-term contract basis as per reports. The BCCI has made up its mind to curb the practice of appointing support staff on an ad hoc basis as was done in the past.
The BCCI constitution says that the Cricket Advisory Committee will pick the head coach, and the selectors will finalize the support staff. However, this rule was not put in practice in the past.
As reported by PTI, the BCCI will now give long-term contracts to all coaches, which will bring the much-needed stability in the team. The decision was taken by the BCCI regarding women’s cricket during the recently concluded Apex Council meeting.
“All the coaches will be given long-term contracts, and it will not a temporary arrangement like we have seen in the past. This will give the team much needed stability,” a BCCI source told PTI.
Since Ramesh Powar was sacked in December, the women’s cricket team has been without a head coach. The team also played last year and the T20 World Cup in February without a head of coaching staff. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the team failed to win the tournament as they lost to Australia in the semi-final. As the next ICC events near, the board will look at the appointment of a coach for the team.
