Indian Women's Cricket Team Etches 7-Wicket Win Over England in Series' First ODI

The Indian women’s cricket team handed team England a seven-wicket defeat in the first ODI of the series held in Hove, England on Sunday. Indian Batter and opener Smriti Mandhana, team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia were the stars of the show as they scored half-centuries and led India to the win.

Indian chose to field first and the bowlers leveraged the conditions to restrict England to an easy target of 227/7.Team India achieved the score (232/3) in only 44.2 overs and etched a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Indian batters had a spectacular day; opener Mandhanawas the top scorer with a 91 run inning. Harmanpreetfinished at 74 and Yastika Bhatia scored 50 in 47 balls. India

Mandhana lost her opening partner Shafali Verma early on (1) and the score of three runs. Mandhana then struck a strong partnership with Yastika and the duo raised 96 runs for the second wicket. Yastika’s wicket fell and she was bowled by Dean.

Mandhana then played another strong partnership with team captain Harmanpreet as she missed the three-figure mark by nine runs. Mandhana and Harmanpreet took India towards the win as they raised 99-runs for the third wicket. The score was 198 in the 37th over when Mandhana was caught by Davidson Richards off Cross.

The skipper remained unbeaten at 74 and she guided India to victory along with Harleen Deol (6 not out off 20 balls).
