Megan Schutt took a career-best five wickets for 19 runs in 16.2 overs, while Georgia Voll contributed to the victory with her unbeaten 46 off 42 balls. India's captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, acknowledged the need for better batting partnerships in future matches.
India scored 100, all out in 34.2 overs, and lost to Australia 102/5 in 16.2 overs by five wickets. The Indian team managed to hit eight boundaries during the first innings at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on December 5, 2024. However, during the second innings, Australian player Phoebe Litchfield smashed eight fours between the sixth and seventh overs. Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer during the 1st ODI series for India with 23 off 42 balls.
India's batting display in four ODIs was woeful, with India being overdependent on Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. Smriti has scored 28.5 per cent of India's ODI runs this year, while the captain and vice-captain have combined for 43.6 per cent. India's struggle when one of both of these batters fails to click is a major concern.
India's batters struggled to put bat to ball, with Australia's new-ball duo of Megan Schutt and Kim Garth beating the outside edge of right-handers. India's running between wickets was also seen, with Harmanpreet being LBW and Jemimah and Richa Ghosh failing to convert a decent start into a sizable total.
