Women farmers of Varanasi have recently received biofertilizer usage training to cultivate organic crops. To produce biofertilizers at home and utilize them for organic vegetable production in Madaiya, Kapsethi, Block- Sevapuri on 10 May 2023.
With the assistance of Mrs. Suman Devi, Asha Aganbadi Trainer (CRD facilitate at Jan Viskash Samiti Varanasi), and Principal Investigator Dr. Jay Prakash Verma, Senior Assistant Professor, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, BHU, this program was organized under the scheme of STI-HUB of DST, New Delhi.
Project teams, Mr. Gowardhan Kumar Chouhan, Arpan Mukherjee, and Deepak Kumar held meetings for the farmers as a part of this initiative to raise awareness about organic farming and kitchen gardening techniques for growing green and organic vegetables by making use of biofertilizers. The team provided top-quality seeds of Spinach, Lauki, Coriander, Chaurahi, and Nanuwa and a 60 ml liquid culture of biofertilizers to 60 women farmers.
The women farmers also saw a presentation provided by Dr. Verma and his research team on the value of biofertilizers and the process of using them for healthy farming like the treatment of soils, seedlings, and plants. The team also guided the farmers about the manufacture of biofertilizers for mass multiplication at his house.
These biofertilizers will enable female farmers to cultivate crops and organic vegetables at their own homes and even consume them for enhancing immunity and remove nutritional deficiencies.
The motive of this initiative is to give disadvantaged farmers access to grow chemical and pesticide-free crops and boost people's health.
