Indian Para-Athletes shine at Para Athletics World Championship 2024

Indian para-athletes Deepthi Jeevanji and Preethi Pal have made significant contributions to the Para Athletics World Championship 2024 in Kobe, Japan. Deepthi secured a gold medal in the women's 400m T20 category, setting a world record with an impressive time of 55.06 seconds, while Preethi also contributed to India's success by winning a bronze medal in the Women's 200m T35 category in the championship.

The 2024 World Para Athletics Championships, organized by the International Paralympic Committee, will take place from 17 May to 25 May 2024 at Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium, showcasing the talent of para-athletes worldwide. The nine-day tournament held in East Asia, acts as a crucial qualifier for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, featuring over 1,000 athletes from 100 countries and regions who have participated in 168 events.

International players who performed phenomenally are, Britain's Sabrina Fortune broke the world record in the Women's Shot Put F20 by throwing 14.73m, winning gold whereas Ecuador's Poleth Isamar Mendes Sanchez clinched the silver medal by throwing 13.90m. China grabbed four gold medals on the third day of competitions, including the women's javelin throw F34 final, where Zou Lijuan retained her world title with a championship record throw of 21.22m. Chinese para thrower Yao Juan won the women's discus throw F64 final with a season's best of 43.09 meters. Zhou Xia defended her world title in the T35 final, while wheelchair runner Zhou Hongzhuan won gold in the 800m T53 final.
