India has seen a 33 per cent increase in diversity hiring, with the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) and Information Technology (IT) sectors leading the way. Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are leading hiring hubs. According to the report by Foundit, the overall hiring activity increased by 12 per cent yearly and 2 per cent monthly as recorded in June 2024, with a 15 per cent growth in hiring over the past six months.
As per the report, Indian businesses are increasingly hiring candidates from diverse groups, including women, LGBTQIA+, and PwD. Industries like BFSI and IT-ITeS have seen a surge in diverse job postings (30 per cent & 19 per cent), with inclusive language and a focus on promoting women to leadership roles. Additionally, job ads now use inclusive language to avoid gender bias, and diversity hiring trends focus on encouraging women to leadership through mentorship and specialized training. Other cities offering significant job opportunities include Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
Diversity initiatives include setting diversity hiring targets, offering bias training, and creating supportive work environments. Inclusive workplaces lead to higher employee satisfaction, retention, and productivity. Government policies and regulatory frameworks support diversity hiring with reservation policies and incentives playing crucial roles. The trend is expected to continue, with ongoing efforts to address challenges and barriers to diversity.
