Deepika Kumar of India comes in ninth place in the Ranking Round. This means she could face one of the top seeds in the quarter-finals. On July 24, she will compete in the Women's Individual event.
She finished 9th with a total score of 663 in 72 arrows. A poor 7 on her final shot cost her two spots, as she was in seventh place before the final round began.
Kara Kohler of the United States is joined in the quarter-finals of the women's single sculls by a Belarussian and an Iranian athlete who qualified directly from heat one.
Deepika was back in tenth place after 30 arrows. She has 277 points, while the South Korean still leads with 287.
An San came in first place with a total score of 401, followed by her compatriot Jang Minhee in second place with a total score of 395.
After 24 of the 72 arrows, a Republic of Korea athlete takes the lead. But it is AN San, not world record holder KANG Chaeyoung, who has 230 points, 5 more than Veronika Marchenko and Alejandra Valencia.
The Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) Advisory Committee has recommended cash awards for Indian athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics. Athletes who win gold medals in the global sporting event will receive Rs 75 lakh.
In the ranking round, all men and women shoot 72 arrows at a target 70 metres away in 12 ends (groupings) of six arrows each. Each archer has two minutes to shoot six arrows at each end of the target.
The archers are then ranked (from first to 64th), and they compete in pairs, with the first-ranked archer facing the 64th-ranked archer, the second facing the 63rd, and so on.
