Preesha Chakraborty, an Indian-American schoolgirl, has been named to the Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth's "world's brightest" students list. She is mere a nine-year-old student from Warm Spring Elementary School in Fremont, California. She has been recognized for her remarkable performance on the SAT, ACT, School and College Ability Test, or similar exams. She has continuously demonstrated exceptional academic abilities. At six years old, Preesha also joined the Mensa Foundation, the world's oldest high-IQ society, as a lifetime member by securing the 99th percentile on the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT).
In the summer of 2023, Preesha, a student in Grade 3, took the Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth (JH-CTY) test. She scored exceptionally well in both the verbal and quantitative sections, matching the 99th percentile of advanced Grade 5 performances. She was awarded the Grand Honors distinction for her accomplishments. The list was compiled using the results of tests taken by more than 16,000 students in 90 countries that were above grade level. Preesha's academic achievements have led her to be accepted into over 250 Johns Hopkins CTY's Online and On-Campus Programs for advanced students in a number of subjects.
In addition to her exemplary qualifications in studies, she also likes to travel, go hiking, and practice mixed martial arts. Her parents mention that Preesha has always had a strong desire to learn and demonstrated remarkable academic ability.
The CTY's Executive Director, Amy Shelton, emphasized that the recognition goes beyond test scores, highlighting students' curiosity and learning capacity. She encouraged students to seek experiences and communities that challenge their knowledge, connect with peers, and think critically.
