India is set to host the first-ever UN Peacekeeping for Women Officers of the Global South Conference in 2025, underscoring its commitment to gender equality and international peace and security. India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced this initiative to promote women's role in peacekeeping, following the India-Japan 2+2 Dialogue in New Delhi. The conference showcases India's leadership in conflict resolution and humanitarian efforts.
EAM Jaishankar emphasized India's historic role in UN Security Council Resolution 1325, announcing India's hosting of the Conference in 2025 and extending a special invitation to Japan. He mentioned, "I appreciate Minister Kamikawa's determined effort to highlight the role of women for peace and security. India is the very first country to operationalize the UN Security Council Resolution 1325. I am happy to announce that we will be holding a first-ever UN Peacekeeping for Women Officers of the Global South Conference in the first half of 2025. Given Foreign Minister Kamikawa's leadership on the matter, I extended a special invitation to Japan to join this Conference."
Indian women peacekeepers have demonstrated courage, professionalism, and support for vulnerable communities. The 2025 conference aims to discuss challenges and opportunities for women in peacekeeping, learning from past missions and strategies to overcome barriers.
