On January 26, the Republic Day parade in New Delhi will include a colourful tableau focusing on women's empowerment. Women account for nearly half of all India Post Payments Bank and Post Office Savings Bank account holders.
According to a press release issued by the department on Monday, "The uniqueness of the tableau lies in its footsoldiers who are real-life postmen and women from different parts of India. They symbolise the transition of India Post from Harkaras to postmen on bicycles and now on e-bikes."
A young postwoman stands in front of the two-part tableau, holding a digital device in one hand and a postman's bag in the other, fusing technology and tradition.
Over 167 years, the ubiquitous red letterbox has reflected public faith. The Harkara - - the Dak messenger or runner of yesteryear - - depicts India Post's evolution over the decades.
Services such as speed post, e-commerce, and ATM cards are displayed in the tableau. A ramp leads to the post office, demonstrating the department's commitment to the disabled.
The floating post office on's Dal Lake, which is also a tourist attraction, is featured in the trailer.
Visitors come here solely to send postcards to family and friends from such a unique location.
The tableau also includes 3D images of all-women post offices.
The replica of the Kolkata GPO, an iconic heritage building designed by Walter Grenville and built in 1868, is located in the back.
The India Post tableau was conceptualised and designed by Vineet Pandey, secretary, department of posts, with creative input from Swati Pandey, post master general, Mumbai region.
