India hopes for Paris Olympics 2024; World Archery Championships starts from Today with all eyes on Ankita Bhagat

The journey for Paris Olympics 2024 starts today with the commencement of the World Archery Championships. The Indian archers will have a week-long competition which will be their first stage toward the Paris Olympics 2024.

24 quota spots for the 2024 Summer Olympics will be available at the Berlin meet. Both men's and women's recurve archery competition will receive three quotas each out of the top three teams making up to 18 of the 24 quotas available.

The top six (three per gender) recurve archers from the contingents who failed to grab a place in the top three team competitions can claim the remaining six Quota spots for their nations. Based on individual performance, each country will receive one quota.

Ankita Bhagat, the captain of the Indian women's recurve team belongs to the team of 12 archers representing India in total at the World Championships whereas the men's recurve team will be led by Dhiraj Bommadevara, bronze medalist at Antalya's stage 1 of the Archery World Cup.

Abhishek Verma, gold medalist at the Asian Games, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, silver medalist at the World Championships and Aditi Gopichand Swami, gold medalist at the World Archery Youth Championships 2023.

Since 1931, India has clinched 11 medals from the World Championships. Jyothi Surekha grabbed an individual silver medal in the women’s compound. The World Archery Championships will feature more than 500 players coming from 81 different countries.
