
India Draw 2-2 with England in Women's Hockey Pro League, Lose 1-2 in Shootout

The Indian women's hockey team twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with England in regulation time, but ultimately lost 1-2 in the shootout during their FIH Pro League match on Sunday.
England’s Paige Gillot (40th minute) and Tessa Howard (56th) scored from penalty corners. India’s goals came from Navneet Kaur (53rd, penalty stroke) and Rutuja Dadoso Pisal (57th, field goal). In the shootout, only Navneet Kaur scored for India, while Salima Tete, Sunelita Toppo, and Lalremsiami missed. For England, Lily Walker and Captain Sophie Hamilton converted in the shootout.
England won the shootout 2-1, earning a bonus point. India had won the first leg 3-2 against England on Saturday. The Indian women’s team will next play Spain in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
England started aggressively, dominating the early exchanges and maintaining ball possession in the first quarter. They secured the first penalty corner in the 9th minute but failed to score against India’s experienced goalkeeper, Savita Punia.
England continued their pressure and earned a second penalty corner in the 11th minute, but again could not breach the Indian defense. Navneet Kaur was the standout player for India, creating chances with quick and incisive runs.
Kaur earned India’s first penalty corner in the 16th minute, which led to another set piece, but England's goalkeeper denied Manisha Chau from the second attempt. In the 21st minute, Kaur was again denied by the English goalkeeper from close range.
