India Women U19 defeated Sri Lanka Women U19 by 60 runs in their ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025 Group A match held in Malaysia at the Bayuemas Oval Stadium, securing their place in the Super Six stage.
The Indian women's cricket team, unbeaten at the tournament so far, qualified for the Super Six stage as Group A winners, with Sri Lankan cricket finishing second and West Indies third.
India Women U19 smashed a total of 118/9 in 20 overs, where Gongadi Trisha clinched the 'Player of the Match' title for her 49 off 44 balls impressive knock.
Team India restricted Sir Lanka Women for 58 off 20 overs, with Indian spinners taking crucial wickets.
Sri Lanka won the toss and bowled first. India, which lost two wickets in the fourth over, was under pressure, as both G Kamalini and Sanika Chalke were dismissed by Pramudi Methsara. Later, Skipper Niki Prasad and opener Gongadi Trisha played a 31-run partnership before being caught and bowled by Aseni Thalagune. Despite the skipper returning to the dugout, Trisha scored runs freely.
India added 40 runs after Trisha was dismissed in the 14th over, with Mithila Vinod scoring 16 and Joshitha V J contributing 14.
Sri Lanka lost their first wicket in the third ball to India's Shabnam Shaki and Joshitha VJ. India reduced Sri Lanka to 9 for 4 in the fourth over, and Sri Lankan captain Manudi Nanayakkara was dismissed. Parunika Sisodia and Aayushi Shukla also contributed to the loss of Sri Lanka, resulting in a score of 58/9 in 20 overs.
