Inaugural Women's Asian Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament to be hosted in Ranchi

India will host the inaugural Asian Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament for women in Ranchi from October 27 to November 5, 2023, following the success of the men's champions trophy in Chennai. Hockey India and the Government of Jharkhand will collaborate to host the seventh edition of the competition. Along with India, the tournament is anticipated to feature the defending champions Japan, the runners-up Korea, China, Malaysia, and Thailand. Ranchi has already hosted for Ranchi Rays, a franchise that competed in the Hockey India League from 2012 to 2015. The stadium has hosted several prestigious domestic competitions in the past few years and comprises a great sports fan base.
Jharkhand has provided many sports enthusiasts and legends including seven Olympians in the field of Hockey. Hemant Soren, Jharkhand's Chief Minister mentioned that welcoming the top women’s hockey teams is a matter of great honor honor, and privilege.
Over the past ten years, hockey has flourished in Jharkhand where several prominent players have represented India at both the junior and senior levels. The seventh edition of the tournament in Ranchi will motivate and inspire the youth to play this sport, says Hemant Soren.
