IIT Mandi Convocation Sees Rise in Number of Girls Graduating

The 11th Convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi was organised today, 16 October 2023 where a total of 565 students (426 men and 139 women) and 60 PhDs have graduated.

According to data, the number of female students graduating from IIT Mandi has increased in various fields compared to last year's data. IIT Mandi has graduated 52 girls in undergraduate programs, 66 in postgraduate and master's programs, and 14 in PhD programs this year, exceeding the previous year's numbers.

According to the data, the number of female students graduating this year is less than the number of male students in every stream except MA, which has 7 male and 8 female graduates. The gender gap in BTech is enormous with 59 female students graduating compared to 185 male students.

In the Ph.D. program, 43 male students graduated compared to 14 female students, in the MTech program 18 female students have graduated compared to 94 male students whereas in the MSc program, 38 female students have graduated compared to 86 male students. In I-PhD and dual degree programs, there are no female students and only 2 female students have graduated from MS programs. There have been 244 BTech degrees and 125 MSc degrees awarded with 44 from Applied Mathematics, 45 from Chemistry, and 35 from Physics.

Aditya Sarkar, Btech Electrical Engineering received the President of a gold medal and Sudhanshu Gangawar, MTech Mechanical Engineering with Specialisation in Energy Systems received the Institute's gold medal.
