IIM Kozhikode has achieved a 60 per cent female enrollment in its flagship postgraduate programme in management, marking a significant milestone in women's empowerment in education. In the current scenario, it has become a trend that can be seen globally as management institutes strive for gender parity in male-dominated classrooms.
The gender balance in the classrooms of IIM Kozhikode has flipped, with 290 female students and 201 male students in the cohort of 2024 compared to 285 male students and 207 female students last year. In 2019, the institute allocated 60 supernumerary seats for women but now they are not reserving any seats. Additionally, IIM Raipur, nearly reached the halfway point this year with the admission of 45 per cent of female students; the final figure will be announced by July 1, 2024. IIMs like Ahmedabad are close to admitting 30 per cent women this year, with 25 per cent of 404 students from diverse backgrounds including educational, professional, and socio-economic in the PGP Class of 2024-26.
Director of IIM Kozikode, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee mentions, "At IIM Kozikode, we take immense pride in being a pioneer in promoting gender diversity among Indian B-Schools.
