Idashisha Nongrang becomes Meghalaya's First Female Police Chief

The state of Meghalaya is all set to welcome its first woman head of police as Idashisha Nongrang has been appointed as its next Director General of Police. Idashisha is a 1992-batch IPS officer.
L R Bishnoi, the outgoing DGP will vacate the office on May 19 and Idashisha will take over the reign on May 20. Idashisha is currently the Director General of Civil Defence and Home Guard for Meghalaya. She has been appointed to the top post for two years.
Idashisha was one of three officers in the running to be appointed to the top position and a host of political parties in the state had come out in support of her being appointed to the position.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to social media to congratulate Idashisha. He wrote in a social media post, “Breaking barriers and making history, Smti Nongrang becomes the first tribal lady from our state to hold this position, a moment of immense pride for all of us. Wishing her all the best in her new role!”
Idashisha’s appointment as the DGP is a step in the right direction for promoting gender balance in India’s bureaucracy.
