ICC announces Women's Champions Trophy 2027 in Sri Lanka as part of New FTP

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the Women's Champions Trophy, a new global event to be hosted by Sri Lanka in June-July 2027, as part of the Women's Future Tour Programme (FTP) for 2025-29 that aims to popularize women's cricket by adding another major global event to the calendar. The tournament will feature six teams competing in a round-robin format, followed by knockout stages.
The Women's Champions Trophy, one of three major women's global tournaments in 2027 will feature in three women's global events over 12 months, including the T20 World Cup in September 2028 and the Los Angeles Olympics in August 2028. Over the next five years, five global events in women's cricket will occur, including T20 World Cups in 2026 and 2028, and two ODI World Cups in 2025 and 2029. India will host the next Women's ODI World Cup next year. The Women's Champions Trophy will increase competitive opportunities and promote gender equality in sports.
15 Women's Tests will be organized during 2025-29. India will play three Tests against Australia, England, and South Africa in 2026, while West Indies will return to Test cricket after 2004, to face Australia, England, and South Africa in consecutive years. The Women's Premier League (WPL) will take place from January to February 2026 whereas Zimbabwe will join the Women's ODI Championship. India and Pakistan will continue to face each other in other ICC events according to the new FTP.
