India has over 355 million women and girls who menstruate, but millions of them still encounter substantial obstacles to having a comfortable and respectable menstrual hygiene management experience.
A group of volunteers from the Humjoli Foundation sought a Guinness World Record by creating a mosaic image using 4,562 biodegradable sanitary pads in an effort to raise awareness about sustainable period products.
The creation of this product served to promote sustainability and increase knowledge of other environmentally friendly and sustainable period products available on the market besides single-use sanitary pads. Additionally, the organisers aimed to de-stigmatize menstruation and have a discourse about it without any taboos.
The message "Promotion of sustainable period items" was emphasised with the tagline "Bleed Red, Go Green" written alongside the mosaic image.
The same images were posted by the Humjoli Foundation on Instagram, along with a comment stating that all the individually packaged sanitary pads used to create the mosaic image would be given to underprivileged women and girls.
An NGO based in Pune named Humjoli Foundation was established in 2018 with the goal of educating young women, adults, and men from all social groups about menstrual health and hygiene. They adhere to 80G and 12A standards.
Humjoli is all about disseminating accurate information and education, eliminating "period poverty," and dispelling taboos and beliefs linked with menstruation. Its tagline, "Periods - Sharm Nahi, Shamta Hai," shouts this out loud.
