The Indian Women Sailors marked history by embarking on the first-ever trans-oceanic voyage of the Indian Naval sailing vessel Tarini, marking a historic journey from INS Mandovi, Goa to Port Lous, Mauritius on 28 February 2024. The voyage has been taken under the Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA).

Showcasing Nari Shakti, a significant initiative taken by the Indian ruling Government, Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa A, have been assigned to lead this journey. The maritime sector is a traditionally male-dominated industry that is at present showcasing the extraordinary talent and devotion of the nation's commitment to bring inclusivity and diversity offering gender equality.

This historic expedition has been planned way back for which the female sailors have been trained rigorously for 2.5 years. They have gone through a challenging selection process along with sailing from Goa to Mauritius in 2022 before commencing this journey. In 2023, these women sailors sailed from Goa to Rio de Janeiro via Cape Town and returned to the initial port as a part of training. Furthermore, they sailed from Goa to Port Blair and returned in a Double Handed Mode.

INSA Tarini will reach their respective destination from Goa, India to Port Louis, Mauritius in 10 to 15 days depending on wind and weather conditions. The association is further planning a crucial preparation for their global circumnavigation, set to embark in September this year.
