Herbalife and Shishu Mandir have launched the "Eco-Wheels Women's Initiative" in Bengaluru, aiming to empower 115 women with electric autos (e-autos). The initiative will promote sustainable transportation and economic independence along with empowering marginalized women by enabling them to become self-employed and generate income in the traditionally male-dominated transportation sector.
India's premier health and wellness company and community, Herbalife India's Managing Director, Ajay Khanna, presented 50 E-Autos to beneficiaries in the first phase in the presence of Mahadevapura Constituency MLA, Mrs. Manjula Aravind Limbavali and Shishu Mandir founder Dr. Hella Mundhra. So far, Herbalife has sponsored 115 E-Autos to empower women and LGBTQ+ individuals with economic opportunities, skills development, and leadership roles. They also trained 50 female drivers, helping them obtain licenses and support school children. Since April 2022, eight batches of e-auto drivers have been trained, with social workers verifying applications and providing continuous support.
Shishu Mandir's social workers ensure only needy applicants receive support, followed by rigorous training, continuous support, and regular upkeep workshops to maintain e-autos in good condition. The partnership aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability by using electric vehicles along with challenging gender norms, encouraging more women to enter the transportation sector, and inspiring sustainable practices.
