Kala Ramachandran, Gurgaon’s first woman police commissioner will take charge on Tuesday.
With additional charge of ADGP State Vigilance Bureau (H), she was earlier posted as the Principal Secretary to the government of Haryana, Transport Department. Since the commissionerate system was introduced in Gurgaon in 2007 she is the first woman police commissioner of the district.
Ramachandran told that her priority would be improving the lives of citizens and facilitating ease of doing business. “Gurgaon being a city with diverse milieu, from rural to corporate to industrial to urban residential, the focus will be on facilitation of ease of doing business and to make life easier for everyone. The focus of the police should be on improving the lives of common citizens,” she said.
Traffic management and road safety are the priority areas in that respect, said the police chief. “One thing that affects everyone is traffic. The security of citizens from street crimes such as hooliganism, snatchings, eve-teasing and drunken driving, and security of women and minors would remain a key priority. Women should be safe and that’s the sign of a mature society also that women can go out of the house without fear. We will also focus on economic offences and cybercrimes,” she said.
She added that after taking charge and discussing with police officers on the ground, a better evaluation of major issues and concerns would be made and, accordingly, plans would be formalised to curb crime.
Earlier Ramachandran had stints as SP in Panchkula, Fatehabad and Rewari.
